Listen and write the specifications

The original dialogue follows a customer and sales representative at a trade show. Learners first listen for the customer’s purpose, then complete a 15-item specification table. They record dimensions, weight, seating capacity, materials, speed, range, charging time, price, warranty and delivery. A corrected width and a delivery delay give them useful reasons to listen carefully.

The recording uses two synthetic British English voices. The product and all specifications are fictional. The full transcript is in the teacher file, with a teacher-read option.

Ask for details, then use them

The language introduction gives simple examples of How long is it?, What is its width? and How much does it weigh? Short picture questions prepare learners for the listening. In the paired task, each learner has different information about a crate and a lift entrance. They ask, clarify and decide whether the delivery will fit under the stated conditions.

Finish with the twelve speaking questions about travel, furniture, luggage, technology and shopping. Let learners explore a few questions and ask natural follow-ups.

What to share

Give everyone student pages 1-3. Give page 4 only to Student A and page 5 only to Student B. Keep the teacher notes and transcript separate until after the listening. Online, send the private sheets separately. One to one, we take the other role.
